Next week is the 15th annual Dam Short Film Festival in Boulder City. If you are attending, I thought maybe you would want some ideas on other things to do while you are here. So here is a short video on two things you can do and they are at the same location! Not that you really need a reason to visit Boulder City, but the film festival is a good one!
Peddle Power The Rails
You can first peddle power the historic rails with the Rail Explorers peddle rail bikes. That’s a mouthful! Don’t worry, they are really easy to peddle and you can relax while enjoying the scenery you are passing. Two-person and four-person bikes are available.
You start at the Souther Nevada Railroad Museum and after a brief introduction and instructions, you are off on the adventure. Have your camera ready! Once you get to the end of the line, there is a nice private area to relax, chat with the other risers while you wait for the train to come and get you. And enjoy even more of the natural surroundings.
Historical Note: Take a look in the distance and you may see Las Vegas. Now think back 88 years ago, during the Great Depression. Las Vegas was only 2,000 people. The drive out to here was 2 hours if not more. You were literally in a desert in the middle of nowhere. This is the same rail line that brought desperate men looking for work as well as the materials needed to work on the Hoover Dam/Boulder Canyon Project.
Nevada Southern Railway Excursion Train
As the crew hooks the peddle bikes to the front of the engine, climb aboard the historic railcars for a leisurely ride back to the museum and to Boulder City. Take in the surroundings, enjoy the onboard narration and plan for what you want to do next in this fun, historic town.
Note: You DO NOT Need to do the Rail Explorers to Ride the train. The historic excursion train runs several times a day on the weekends plus special events!
Did I say “Historic” enough times??
